Movie Scene Critique 2

The movie A Star is Born is set in modern times and follows the life and pains of a struggling artist and her mentor, who is a very popular artist. It is clear that the directors and brains behind creating this movie wanted to really follow what it like to be a famous person in modern times. In the beginning of the movie, one part of the pair of main characters, Lady Gaga aka Ally, plays a struggling singer who spends her free time singing at a Drag Bar. When she meets Bradley Cooper, aka Jackson Maine, she realizes what it is really like to be in the eyes of everyone in the world. The variety of emotions throughout the movie provide a variety of visual moods as well. Specifically, Bradley Cooper's rehab scene.

When Cooper attends rehab, the build up to his departure is intense. With multiple scenes where Cooper is seen having alcoholic rampages, following those scenes are ones where Gaga screaming and crying. They both meet at a table in a thought of to be secluded space with no people, a sunny, private room where they can talk. The camera is zoomed in far so the only thing you can see if the window looking to a sunny field outside, a coffee table, and the married couples faces. This is a gorgeous shot, because the sun sets the mood perfectly, and there is no distraction in the background so that the viewer can just focus on the conversation and the emotions that the characters are feeling. It makes it personal. I was able to tell that this was strategically planned out because after the conversation is over between them, the camera panned out, revealing others in a room, and the space that they were in was filled with other coffee tables and other people
